Karva Chauth

Karva Chauth' is one of the most important festivals of Hindus. It falls on the fourth day after the full moon in the month of Kartik according to Hindu Calendar. It generally arrives in October/ November month as per the modern calendar. Karva Chauth is celebrated by Hindu women across all over India.

Karva Chauth is a day long fast observed by married women for the welfare and longevity of their husbands. There are various stories which describe the starting and significance of this festival.

On the day of Karva Chauth, women wake up early in the morning. Before the sunrise, they eat fruits and a special dish called feniyan. After this, the whole day long strict fast without food or water is observed. On this day, women apply heena on hands. They wear best of clothes and traditional jewellery. They open their fast at night with the arrival of moon.

The festival of 'Karwa Chauth' is a popular festival of Hindus. According to this Hindu calendar, the fourth part of Kartik month's Krishna Paksha is celebrated. This day is also called 'Ganesh Chaturthi'. 

Karva Chauth's fast is kept by women for good luck, happiness and children. It is celebrated with joy and glee in entire India. On this day, the women take water after the moon's sight by keeping the waterless (without water) fast for husband's long life. 

It is believed that Mother Parvati had prayed to Shiva for giving special status to her beloved son Shri Ganesh. Lord Shiva accepted the prayer of Mother Parvati and gave a boon to Shri Ganesh first to worship in Ganesha. Since then, Ganesha is worshiped before doing auspicious work. On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, Karva Chauth has a fast.



Due to Karwa Chauth, there is a huge crowd of women in the markets. Women buy new clothes as well as buy designer clothes.


करवा चौथ

'करवा चौथ' का त्यौहार हिन्दुओं का प्रसिद्द त्यौहार है। यह हिन्दू कैलेण्डर के अनुसार कार्तिक माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्थी को मनाया जाता है। इस दिन को 'गणेश चतुर्थी' भी कहते हैं।

करवा चौथ का व्रत स्त्रियों द्वारा सौभाग्य, सुख व संतान के लिए रखा जाता है। यह सम्पूर्ण भारत में हर्ष व उल्लास के साथ मनाया जाता है। इस दिन स्त्रियाँ पति की दीर्घ आयु के लिए निर्जला (बिना जल का) व्रत रखकर चन्द्रमा के दर्शन के बाद ही जल ग्रहण करती हैं।

मान्यता है कि अपने प्रिय पुत्र श्री गणेश को विशेष दर्जा दिलाने के लिए मां पार्वती ने शिव से प्रार्थना की थी। भगवान् शिव ने मां पार्वती की प्रार्थना स्वीकार कर श्री गणेश को गणों में सबसे पहले पूजा करने का वरदान दिया था। तब से शुभ कार्य होने से पहले श्री गणेश का पूजन किया जाता है। गणेश चतुर्थी के दिन ही करवा चौथ का व्रत पड़ता है।

करवा चौथ के चलते बाज़ारों में महिलाओं की खासी भीड़ दिखाई पड़ती है। महिलायें नए कपड़ों को खरीदने साथ ही डिज़ाईनर करवे भी खरीदती हैं।
